COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES

Introduction

The College of Health Sciences is one of the outstanding colleges in the university. The college offers training that enable students become certified health care practitioners. The college offers Associate of Science Degree in Nursing. However, preparation is ongoing for the elevation of programs to bachelor’s degrees level in the soonest possible time in the following disciplines:

  • Nursing
  • Midwifery
  • Public Health

Mission

The mission of the program is to train and produce competent nurses who will provide quality nursing care to clients with different needs (physical, emotional, spiritual, and social) in the health facility and community. The college is serving communities by preparing students to become ‘responsible citizens’ and providing relevant, quality educational programs capable of responding to human resource needs of the county, country and world at large.

Vision

To produce competent nurses who will improve and promote the health status of the Liberian population. The college shall be the premier among the colleges at Lofa County University integrating leaning and applied research specializing in healthcare programs.

Objectives

To provide training and study leading to Associate of Arts Degree in professional nursing;

  • To provide professional course work for persons interested in pursuing such health careers including nursing and teaching;
  • To offer courses which satisfy the curriculum requirements for Associate Degree in Professional Nursing;
  • To encourage students and faculty to participate in Professional nursing and research program and to be active in pursuit of medical knowledge. Critical thinking, data analysis, computer and instrumentation usage are skills to be developed.
  • To participate in community outreach activities as professional nursing, educator’s and representative of the college.
